The good old days

Exodus 12:40-5

     Ahh, to the good old days. According to this passage, no foreigners shall partake of the  Passover meal and many other strictures must be scrupulously followed. And If an alien who resides with you wants to celebrate the passover to the Lord, all his males shall be circumcised. Ouch!  Yes, those were the good old days and the call to go backwards continues today. There were whole periods of history where such ignorance and backwards thinking reigned, one was called the dark ages. And still, there are periods where logic, education, science, the arts and openness reigned. That is call ed the period of enlightenment. If you think I am speaking about circumcision, you are missing the point.

       I would leave this to you to ponder and meditate on. What do we have right now? An aching to go back to dark times? Bigotry? Willful ignorance? Racism and a modern version of feudalism with feudal lords? An Oligarchy?

       What are we called to do with the intelligence God has given us? Are we called to hide our lights, individual and collective under a bushel basket? What rights has God granted each and every person? And dignity?  

          Shining light on ignorance, what are we called to do? Sitting back complacently means complicity.  Fighting for justice, rights and equality is love. Thoughts for today.
